For winter athletes of all levels, physical fitness is essential for a good time on the slopes. Snowboarders, snowsurfers and all athletes in particular are prone to a wide range of injuries, ranging in severity from bone bruises and sprains to fractures, dislocations or even concussions. Understandably, new snowboarders are always on the lookout for a means to improve their performance in the snow.

We quickly learned that mornings are typically on the slower side in Alaska, as the days are long this time of year and there really isn’t a rush to be anywhere when you can ski till 8pm. Unless, that is, there is fresh powder to be had.

Meet Tanner Webster from Thousand Oaks, California. He grew up skiing Mammoth and June until he was 13 when he switched to snowboarding and never looked back. He has now been snowboarding for 11 years and in the last two years started riding Elevated boards. This season he entered the Smash Life Banked Slalom and placed second!

The plan was set— tour the Alps with the Moustache Regazzis from Italy to Austria. Along the way we would meet up with members of our surf club, savor in local cuisine and surf the highest and most extensive mountain range system in Europe.

Trim and Carve

A surfer aims to find the pocket of the wave. Through trim angle and carving the face speed can be harmonized with pitch. To trim- wide turn- across the mountain (wave) face is to pitch in perfect accordance to the speed necessary to stay in the pocket.
