Gals Shaping Session at @truckeeroundhouse:

From all around the crystal blue waters of Lake Tahoe, gathered a group of folks that may not have interacted since the snow melted in the spring or even recognized each other out of the traditional winter bundling and goggles. In this way it didn't matter if you had actually met each other before- an underlying bond had drawn you to this gathering: the common interest in surfing on snow.

While this particular session was focused on shaping a board for gal riders, dudes and groms mixed and mingled to share in the experience.

To kick things off @aaron_sababba presented a brief history of snow sliding theory depicted by examples from the Elevated Quiver. While those concepts soaked in the mingling presided over a healthy spread of snacks and non-alcoholic libations.

Stage 2: Templates, tape measurers,  and pencils. To account for the large turnout we broke into 2 groups headed up by the gals who quickly got to work expressing their ideas through sketches on masonite. With experience and knowledge flowing in from every direction any possible question was readily answered by peers.

The Final Act: jigsaws, sanders and the under the arm test.

Once the final curves were etched, @kennygood got to work with the jigsaw to zip em free and sand them down. The shapes were passed around for “under the arm” tests then laid down on the floor and stood upon to gauge boot sizing and visualize the ride. Finally color swaths were passed around and agreed upon a version of pinkish orange which is currently all around the mountains in the form of the blooming Indian Paintbrush flower.

As the group departed from the shop the air outside felt the first tinge of briskness...  the sure sign that we are Enroute back to winter.

Pow Day Session

I tried out this board on a deep powder day at Bachelor. I'm 5'11 and about 155lbs - so it was a bit on the small side for me. Quite honestly, the shortest board I've ever ridden. BUT I was actually quite shocked. It did way better than I expected. Very quick and nimble edge to edge in the deep trees, and it cut through the tracked deep snow like butter. For being so short, I expected it to have more chatter, but it floated and navigated effortlessly. I wouldn't recommend it in deep snow for someone of my weight/size (i'd get a bit bigger) because I felt like I couldn't keep enough speed in lower angle terrain - however - I assumed this going in but wanted to try it anyhow, and by those standards it out-performed my expectations, and float was way better than I imagined. Solid ride!

Surfy good times, no matter the conditions !

We have owned a pair of minifish's since Dec 2020. They are the funnest boards we own and are beyond ridiculous fun into pow. But thot was to be expected. What wasn't was how much fun they would be on groomers. They are a blast to carve and love popping side hits. It’s not limited to perfect pow days.
At 5’11’/175 pounds I was certain the mini-fish was going to be too short for me, so I bought a minifish for my partner who is 5’6’’/145 pounds.
She is a pretty darn good snowboarder to start with and def doubted me when I handed her the little board, but once she got on the minifish, it was turned up to an 11 no matter the snow quality. Whistler has a lot of what I’d like to call rowdy pow, we get lots of days of upside down, or super bumped out pow with hard ice underneath a foot or two of fresh, the mini fish devoured it all.
On one particular deep and weird snow day (about 2.5 feet of upside down snow) I took the mini fish out. I expect having to fight it a bit and settled in for a day of leg burn. But nope I could lean forward into the turns, slash at will. So fun, ordered one for myself the next day, and it’s pretty much a daily driver around here. Since I started back boarding I have gone from a 2001 Libtech 165 to 2021 Minifish 138...absolutely love the new shapes.
Of note, the workmanship is amazing, top sheets, bases and edges are solid and after 50 plus days of lift lines and (sorry Aaron) falling out of cars on pavement , they still look like new.

Don’t fret the fish!

I’m no expert. I consider myself a solid intermediate rider who uses a 153cm board, so when Aaron suggested I try this little guy I was very intimidated! I was reassured this board would take me down the mountain as if I was on a wave and that the length shouldn’t turn me away from giving it a shot. So I headed to Mammoth for the weekend and swapped my 6’5 egg surfboard for a 4’6 snowboard. I’m stoked I did! The responsiveness of the Mini Fish is unreal! I couldn’t believe how similar it felt to surfing and I was doing so on a groomed day!! It took some time adjusting my “snowboard legs” to adapt to a more relaxed surf stance and carve like I would on a wave. I HIGHLY recommend even for the less experienced gals!!

Did not expect to have so much fun on hard pack

Pulled up to The Mill (Mammoth) on a Tuesday and ran into Aaron. Got a chance to try this board on some early season groomers. This is my first directional, the shape gave me the confidence to lean in on turns. Springing out of turns felt amazing. Satisfied with carving, I tried setting my weight back (as if in powder). Just phenomenal...

A vital tool

The MINNI FISH is unreal. Having come from riding a MINNI driver daily I knew what I was getting into. Something quick, snappy and fun. Working on the mountain I have the pleasure of making first tracks everyday. This board on groomers holds on the rails like nothing else I’ve ever ridden. When you go down and lock into that carve you really lock it in there. Snap it back and then Rip it the other way.. it’s so hard to wash out. It blasts through end of day chunder with ease On powder days this thing slays. It floats. It cuts. It rips. It dips and dives and holds on and takes what ever you throw at it. The best days this season were always had on this board absolutely attacking the powder and Chunder. You can really feel The fins doing work on your back foot and if you slash hard enough you can get up on one fin and really dig that edge in. These vessels make you ride different put that flow in you that you’ve been looking for. You’ll look at the mountain different. You’ll start seeing waves.
