Surfcraft Theory

Elevated SurfCraft

Snow boards shaped for high altitude surfing.
In search of Stoke.
With the proclaimed death of snowboarding by the industry in 2015 we set off in search of a way to revive the stoke! From a basement tune shop under a brewery - armed with a router and an handmade press - homegrown shaper Aaron Sababba began pulling templates from every era of snowboarding and wave surfing in search of optimal performance for the American snow rider looking for efficient and dynamical movement across the terrain in order to enhance progression in the mountains and snow conditions of the United States.
These experiments quickly led to a reinterpretation of riding style. Seeing the mountain as extended waves; rights and lefts - drops, sections, barrels, shoulders, and closeouts. In surfing, each shape of the quiver has a unique fit to the wave and the rider’s style of approach. The aim is to stay in the pocket, hold the trimline, carve a cutback and continue at the pace of the wave. From ankle high low angle groomers to double overhead black diamond faces, the equation is simple: more time in the pocket = greater focus in the flow state = higher degrees of stoke.

Two guiding principles:
  • Optimize float in powder
  • Reduce toe and heel drag on groomers
Setback stance, nose and tail shapes, and width.Elevated Surfcraft are Tailored to the Trimline. Mental performance worthy of advancement.
Another equation according to Pythagorus:
The optimal route can be determined by calculating any given
altitude (attitude) A2 + a given distance in time and space B2
C2 is the hypotenuse or Trimline- optimal consciousness and conscientiousness.
In order to account for style of approach to this equation, we have developed a variety of board shapes.
To fully understand these principles, we built out a short bus as a mobile cabin and cruised across the Rockies, Cascades and Sierras, and up and down the Pacific Coast, testing the theory on every mountain and wave we came across.
The standout defining factor is that each surf break is unique and requires an attuned local shaper to refine an appropriate craft to the particular wave. The Elevated SurfCraft quiver aims at refining these crafts accordingly.
